Our mission is to provide access to justice by empowering and educating Self Represented Litigants and Victims of domestic violence with legal and victim support services.  Clients must qualify for services under our eligibility Guidelines and established priorities.                           Located in the historic downtown Simms building at 4th and Gold ,Legal FACS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that has provided free or low-cost legal services and domestic violence advocacy services since 1971.

Our Unique Courthouse Lawyer Service uses free attorneys to provide forms and instructional materials to those representing themselves in domestic relations and small claims cases. Our Courthouse Lawyer is only available to be seen in BERNALILLO COUNTY.

Services include consultation and information on such issues as divorce, child custody, visitation, child support calculations and property division. We also represent domestic violence victims at hearings for Orders of Protection, and in some cases provide full representation.  Clients must pay any court fees, service costs, discovery and any other expense.

Our Pro Se Forms Clinic assists clients completing the necessary documents to represent themselves in domestic and small claims cases.

Referrals to other legal resources are made when necessary. Because domestic legal issues are difficult to deal with alone, the need for collaboration and partnerships is important. Our goal is to reduce the effects of domestic violence by helping to resolve civil legal issues and to develop an integrated domestic violence response system.

It is important at the outset that self-represented persons recognize that they are required to follow the same rules of procedure and evidence as a party represented by a lawyer. It is the responsibility of every litigant, including self-represented parties, to determine what needs to be done and to take the necessary action.
